About us

In 2021, Matteo Caimi and Pierluigi Colombo founded COLT Architects, an architecture and design studio based in Milan. A creative team that combines passion, experience, and innovation to create unique and tailor-made projects that meet the most diverse needs.

COLT Architects is a multidisciplinary studio that offers a complete service: from architectural conception to interior design, from art direction to product design. Whether for private residences, commercial spaces, or offices, their approach is distinguished by the pursuit of creative and functional solutions, always attentive to the client's needs.

Our Philosophy

The language of COLT Architects is concise and essential, far from decorative excesses for their own sake. Light, wisely used, becomes the protagonist, enhancing forms and creating suggestive atmospheres. Their design philosophy is based on the creation of spaces and products that combine functionality, simplicity, and purity, enhancing the beauty and harmony of forms. Neutral and natural materials are carefully chosen to emphasize the elegance and refinement of each design.

A particular aspect of our design vision is represented by Dynamic Spaces: flexible and multifunctional spaces designed to optimize the efficiency and versatility of traditional layouts and and meet the evolving needs of contemporary lifestyles. COLT Architects increases the efficiency and versatility of environments, improving the user experience and the marketability of properties.

Matteo Caimi

Milano 1968

Studied and graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, becoming a Member of the Order of Architects of Milan from 1998.

After graduating, he joined the architecture firm C&A and became a partner, after many years of apprenticeship within the company. Alongside with the Italian activity, C&A+Partners developed a series of residential and showroom projects in several American cities, such as New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Phoenix.

Over the years the design practise has ranged from the residential sector to the development of whole concepts for schools, hotels, sport facil- ities, industrial complex, banks, shops, showrooms, exhibitions, temporary installations and yachts.

Often the Studio has even been called to take care of the interiors, developing solutions that both use standard and custom designed pieces within each project.

Beginning from 2008, Matteo Caimi also plays the role of Director of Architecture at the Atlanta Design Festival.

From 2012 to 2017, after managing the design and the construction, Matteo Caimi became Art Director of Studio 3125, an Interior Design showroom with a purely European imprint, in Tempe, Arizona.

In 2018 Matteo Caimi has constituted MC Architecture & Design, continuing the path started at C&A, mainly dealing with residential architec- ture and interior design, alternating between Milan and the United States.

Pierluigi Colombo

Milano 1969

Studied Architecture at the “Kunst Akademie” of Copenhagen and at Polytechnic University of Milan, where he graduated in 1993. He collaborated as an Architect with the BDP Studio of Berlin between 1994 and 1995.

Pierluigi Colombo began developing the idea of multifunctional products and their design in 1996, when he became Creative Director and Designer at Clei s.r.l., the world’s leading brand in transformable furniture, where he was co-owner until 2023. His research encompasses both product design and corporate identities, as well as exhibition stand designs for global and local fairs and showrooms.

Colombo believes that understanding the potential of interior spaces is key and that design should integrate multifunctional solutions to achieve maximum space efficiency.

However, his expertise extends far beyond multifunctionality. With over 25 years of experience, Colombo's portfolio is rich with versatile solutions that cater to diverse cultures and lifestyles, in the fields of interior architecture and product design, as well as exhibition design at major international trade fairs and museums.

His work includes prestigious accolades such as the Interior Innovation Award in 2012 and the Red Dot Design Award in 2013.

Among his notable interior design projects are the extension of a Penthouse in Mariano Comense, a Penthouse in Varazze, the design of the Micro-Unit “LaunchPad” for the Exhibition “Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers” at the Museum of the City of New York in 2013, and the apartment “The Open House” for the show “Making Room, Housing for Changing America” at the National Building Museum of Washington in 2017.
